How to Develop Your Intuitive Reading Skills?

What are intuitive readings?

Intuitive readings are snapshots in time, like taking an energetic photo or selfie. When someone else sees that photo, they can get a sense of what’s happening with that person, but it’s not the whole story.

You can take the “photo” or do the reading yourself. There is no need to hand the phone or camera to someone else to take the picture.

It’s the same information, just from a different perspective. Once you learn to trust your inner guidance, you’ll know that you are just as accurate -if not more so- than another person.

The truth is, we are all one, connected through the invisible tapestry that envelopes each person, animal and situation. This network is how intuitives, who have actively developed their skills, are able to sense unseen information that’s available to all of us.

How to do your own readings

Considering that you are in your body, you have direct access to your field of information. You are the best person to do your own readings. However, an untrained intuitive can trip themselves up. We often don’t see ourselves the way others do. Our biases, habits and beliefs that can limit our ability to sense accurately.

Once we become aware of this fact, acknowledge, then we can sense more accurately. With practice you become better and more natural as you learn to trust your instincts.

Associations

Let’s play a game: When I say the word, “roses,” what do you see? Red roses? Pink roses? What comes to mind?

Activate all of your senses. What do you smell? What emotion do you associate with the smell? Can you feel the soft petals on your skin?

When I was learning to analytically taste wine in Sensory 101 at Fresno State, we learned to articulate what were were smelling by association. Consider the following example of roses.

  • Child One would go with his family to play at the park, walking by fragrant rose bushes. This child associates the smell of roses with fun, play, happiness, love, and family- good times.
  • Child Two lost a parent at a young age, and roses were present at the funeral. This child associates the smell of roses with loss, sadness, pain, grief, anger -bad times in general.

The same scent, image or experience can evoke a very different response in each person. Smell, taste and all of your senses are highly personal linked to associated memories.

Your unique experiences will shape how you interpret the intuitive messages you receive. No two intuitive languages will be the same.

Develop Your Intuitive Language

The first step in developing your intuitive language is to create your own intuitive “alphabet” of symbols.

When you sense something about a person, you may see an image of a candle or a bird flash in your mind’s eye. Or, you may suddenly smell roses. Ask yourself,  what associations do you have a candle, a bird or roses?

Often, our five physical senses are engaged to help our clairs (psychic abilities) – whether it’s seeing, smelling, hearing, tasting or feeling. Our external world can inform the internal, and vice versa.

6 Common symbols

Each person’s intuitive language is unique but there are some common symbols that most people will encounter from simply going on a walk around the neighborhood. Your task is to personally identify the meaning (or meanings) of each symbol. See if any of the following resonate with you:

  1. Butterfly – A message from a loved one who’s passed. It symbolizes the delicate and temporary nature of life, which makes it beautiful and precious. It also represents new life and life beyond this one.
  2. Ladybug – A symbol of blessings, the Universe’s support, a smile, good luck, or “Yes” from the universe.
  3. Dragonfly–Transformation, the ability to change direction quickly, and rebirth. It reminds you that who you are, does not point to who or what, you will become. You can decide to grow wings and fly, symbolizing  life’s magic.
  4. Bluejay – Represents the throat Chakra, speak your truth. It is safe to express yourself. You are encouraged to live your life authentically.
  5. Snail – A sign that you are safe. Take your time. Slow and steady is the way. You have everything you need with you; go at your own pace. “Nature does not hurry.” What’s the rush? Stop and rest when you need it.
  6. White feather – A sign that angels are with you, especially when a feather seemingly floats down in front of you from nowhere.

Repeating Symbols

You may notice certain animals, numbers or colors crossing your path more often than others. There are a few reasons for this.

  • Connection with your inner self: Repetition helps you connect with the deeper meaning, allowing for the message to become ingrained in your being.
  • Multilayered Messages–  the message may evolve over time as you evolve.
  • Timing– Messages can appear at a specific time or situation. It’s important to consider your surroundings, and connect the dots on how the symbols relate to one another, combining to create a larger message.

In time, you’ll develop your own style and understanding, speaking the language of the Universe through nature, numbers, colors and symbols. As you become more attuned to these messages, you’ll notice that your connection deepens. What once seemed like random occurrences will begin to feel like an intuitive conversation with the world around you.

All is well

The messages you receive should leave you with a loving, peaceful feeling. They’re meant to soothe, encourage and comfort you. Release any judgmental thoughts or feelings that may influence the message negatively. Ultimately, you feel a sense of knowing that all is well.
