“There’s nothing you can’t do if you get the habits right.” -Charles Duhigg
Do one thing that makes you feel organized, productive, or accomplished every day in 5 minutes or less. Whether it’s making the bed, organizing the entryway’s shoes, putting the clean clothes away, picking up the dog poop, putting all of the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, cleaning the bathroom counter, or choosing what you’re going to wear tomorrow, the night before.
The task doesn’t have to be glamorous. On the contrary, it most likely isn’t glamorous. It may not be something that you enjoy doing, which is why it’s not done right now. By choosing one task that you can accomplish every single day that brings happiness to your heart, you are planting the seed of action. Often, we have stories in our minds that control our belief system that prevents us from reaching our goals. The seed of action is Procrastination’s antidote.
If you have read Tim Ferriss’s book, “Tools of Titans,” then you know that the number one ritual of the most successful people in the world is that they make their bed. Personally, I love walking into my room and seeing my bed made. I spend one minute making the bed every morning, and it has a huge impact on my day. I feel organized and accomplished before I walk into the kitchen to have a cup of coffee.
Now it’s your turn. What is one task that you can do in under five minutes that will add value to your life? It must be something that is easy to incorporate into your daily schedule. It’s best if the activity is already part of your morning or evening routine, like brushing your teeth. Your goal is to easily accomplish this task over the next seven days. If you notice a positive difference in your life then continue forth with this healthy habit.
Over time you will see the full benefits of your small daily actions. They may seem insignificant initially but I assure they are not. Nothing you do is insignificant. Everything you do is significant. You are important and what you do matters.
Did you know that if you save one penny on Day 1, two pennies on Day 2, three pennies on Day 3, etc. for 365 days, at the end of the year you will have saved $667.95? The largest deposit is on day 365 when you deposit $3.65 into your savings. Let’s double your efforts! Save two pennies on Day 1, four pennies on Day 2, six pennies on Day 3 and by the end of the year, you’ll have saved $1335.90
TODAY’S PRACTICE: Make 2 Lists
LIST 1:List everything that you would like to be done every day if you could wave a magic wand and POOF! everything is as you wished it to be.
LIST 2:Write down everything that you’re willing to do & can be done in under 5 minutes.
STEP 3:Look at both of your lists. Which items are the same on both lists? Start there. Remember, you’re not married to the item. This practice is to help make your life easier, to bring peace into your home and life.
